I used a drill, a Leatherman saw, hack saw, wood rasps and files. The pins were part of the handle of a telescopic flyswatter. I glued it with Gorilla clear-drying epoxy.
The old handle had steel sticking out of it, all the way around, and was too thin. The ones I made are thicker and a lot more comfortable.
D2 tool steel is harder, and keeps an edge longer than 440. Very capable of tough cutting tasks.
